In this digital era, financial services in Africa are limited to cash-based transactions. People pay 10% or more for remittances in Sub-Saharan Africa. Further, the continent also lacks financial institutions in remote areas, forcing people to travel long distances to collect money. A large majority do not have access to productive and safe means of saving, or efficient money transfer.

  • Design and develop a comprehensive chatbot that includes third-party integration to facilitate financial services for end users.
  • Create a merchant web application with functionalities similar to those of the WhatsApp chatbot.
  • Design and develop an admin panel that enables users to monitor their transactions effectively.

Solution

Working with Oodles, our client introduced a Stellar-powered WhatsApp-based digital wallet to bring together many financial services. The wallet includes an admin panel for managing and tracking user transactions. We have also successfully integrated this end-to-end system with Twilio for a robust platform. Additionally, we have designed and developed a merchant web application with features similar to WhatsApp chatbot.

Uhuruwallet is a digital wallet primarily based on WhatsApp, empowering individuals to conduct various transactions, including person-to-person and person-to-merchant transfers, cash-in and cash-out services, utility bill payments, airtime purchases, and Dstv payments, among other functionalities.

Outcome

The solution brought significant revenue growth to our client as a large number of users including merchants joined the network to use the services offered. During the initial phase, they were able to drive 5000+ user registrations and merchant enrolment.
